His first book Big In China is a memoir about raising three American children in Beijing and forming Woodie Alan, an award-winning blues band with three Chinese musicians. Ivan Reitman's Montecito Pictures optioned the film rights. He currently fronts the Maplewood NJ band Big in China.

My life has taken some imporbable turns in China. I play ice hockey. I front a popular band in Beijing. But this is right up there: I wrote a golf story for the Wall Street Journal.
